Work with the players to set performance goals, which are related to self-improvement. This positively impacts the players’ well being.
Encourage the players to be internally motivated so their focus is on interest and enjoyment, rather than playing for money, avoiding guilt or seeking approval from others.
Provide players with information regarding why particular aspects of training or competition are important (ie: Defence is important because…)
Communicate with players regarding their attitudes and approach to training. Keep communication POSITIVE and encourage positive communication between the players.
Use role plays to model the behaviour of athletes/players with desirable and indivisible attitudes.
Be a storyteller. Talk to your players about your previous experiences that demonstrate why having a positive attitude is very very very important.
An attitude refers to a feeling/opinion about something or someone. In terms of sports – it could be one’s feelings about the performance, training, even an attitude towards a Coach.
